We prepared business specifications for the comprehensive introduction of a Wi-Fi network in the footprint of a cable network operator. These served as input for the final implementation.
Initial situation and objectives
- For the comprehensive introduction of a public Wi-Fi network for existing customers and customers of other networks (“Use-As-You-Go”), the department developed a product concept which explained the product characteristics and requirements.
- In order to implement the Wi-Fi network, the technical requirements and business requirements as well as their impact on the IT system landscape had to be defined, analysed and structured in order to ensure subsequent implementation.
Approach
- Due to the product complexity as well as extensive stakeholders within the company and the parent company, intensive coordination with all parties involved and specialists was necessary.
- The introduction of a Wi-Fi network had far-reaching effects on existing business processes, which were discussed in process workshops; based on this, processes were adapted, and new processes defined and documented.
- Detailed recording and analysis of the requirements as well as derivation of the effects on the IT systems were the core activity and resulted in two final requirement documents
Results
- The structured recording of the business requirements and the IT system compact analysis in the Business Requirements Document (BRD) was the starting point for the subsequent creation of the functional detailed specification, which was created by an external supplier and served as the input variable for the final implementation.
